Air Fryer Rouladen Rolls (Printable)

Seitan rouladen with smoky mustard and pickles, air-fried for a flavorful, crispy twist.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Beef Substitute

01 - 17.6 oz seitan or soy-based steak strips
02 - 2 tbsp olive oil
03 - 1 tsp smoked paprika
04 - 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
05 - 1/2 tsp salt

→ Filling

06 - 4 tbsp German or Dijon mustard
07 - 4 medium dill pickles, sliced into strips
08 - 1 medium red onion, thinly sliced
09 - 4 slices smoked deli ham or plant-based ham
10 - 4 slices bacon or plant-based bacon

→ Assembly & Cooking

11 - 1 tbsp vegetable oil for brushing
12 - Kitchen twine or toothpicks

→ Optional Gravy

13 - 1 tbsp flour
14 - 7 fl oz low-sodium vegetable broth
15 - 1 tbsp tomato paste
16 - 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, vegan if needed
17 - Salt and pepper to taste

# How To Make:

01 - Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
02 - In a mixing bowl, toss seitan or soy-based steak strips with olive oil, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
03 - Lay each steak strip flat, spread 1 tablespoon of mustard on top, then layer with a slice of ham and bacon. Add pickle and onion strips along one edge.
04 - Roll the strips tightly from the pickle end and secure each roll with kitchen twine or toothpicks.
05 - Lightly brush each rouladen roll with vegetable oil on all sides.
06 - Place rolls in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 10 minutes, turn, then cook for an additional 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown and lightly crisp.
07 - In a saucepan, whisk flour with a small amount of vegetable broth to form a paste. Gradually whisk in the remaining broth, then stir in tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
08 - Remove twine or toothpicks from rouladen rolls and serve hot, with or without gravy.
